Vertiv products feature novel designs, enhancing both technical performance and ease of use
LONDON, U.K. — March 15, 2017 — Based on its recent analysis of the data centre cooling solution market, Frost & Sullivan recognises Vertiv™, formerly Emerson Network Power, with the 2017 EMEA Frost & Sullivan Award for Product Leadership. Vertiv’s strong R&D culture and extensive intellectual property combined give it a unique edge in the highly competitive cooling market. Its customer feedback-driven product development and innovation initiatives have helped it identify and resolve current and future industry pain points. Over the past 18 months, the company launched 10 cooling products specifically addressing technical performance (efficiency, energy savings, power capacity, and density) and ease of use. By continuously enriching its product portfolio through new launches and enhancements, Vertiv has been able to keep pace with rapidly evolving customer needs.
Vertiv possesses the widest and most comprehensive range of data centre cooling products in the EMEA region, and each product boasts value-added features and functionalities. Its extensive portfolio comprises:
- Direct Expansion (DX) systems: the Liebert® PDX floor mount range, the Liebert EconoPhase™ pumped refrigerant economizer, and the Liebert CRV in-row cooling units combined with Liebert MC outdoor micro-channel condensers. They can operate at high return-air temperatures, suitable for IT equipment
- Chilled Water (CW) systems: the Liebert PCW, a high-efficiency chilled water floor-mount range and Liebert HPC, its freecooling chillers, which maximise the freecooling operation all year round
- Adiabatic Chilled Water systems: the Liebert AFC, a patented adiabatic freecooling chiller solution, guaranteeing 100 percent cooling availability
- Evaporative Freecooling: the Liebert EFC includes the indirect air-to-air heat exchanger and evaporative cooling technologies in a single footprint
“Vertiv’s Liebert EconoPhase has further strengthened its DX portfolio. It is the first pumped refrigerant economiser system in the market to offer enhanced energy savings and has the unique ability to provide three different freecooling methods — air, water, and refrigerant,” said Frost & Sullivan Senior Industry Analyst Gautham Gnanajothi. “The company also enhanced its CW portfolio by launching the new Liebert HPC-S freecooling chiller range, which implements adiabatic cooling. Vertiv specifically addressed individual applications with its three new products: the Liebert FCM for shelter applications, Liebert DCL for rack cooling applications, and Liebert EFC 220 to further extend its indirect evaporative freecooling range.”
The company’s industry-leading designs address any customer need independent of the data centre and building constraints. Vertiv has a copious number of patents for technology innovation, with those filed in 2016 having mainly focused on the new evaporative and adiabatic technologies. It places significant emphasis on designing products according to the needs of specific application segments and end-user types. For instance, the Liebert AFC adiabatic freecooling chiller is designed for data centres requiring high efficiency and 100 percent cooling availability even in unfavourable environments with fluctuating power supply, water shortage, and extreme external air temperatures. On the other hand, the Liebert EFC, which uses evaporative cooling technology, is aimed at data centres requiring high energy efficiency, while minimising operating costs.
Vertiv’s design excellence endows end users with a high degree of configuration flexibility. It can seamlessly configure and customise its products with multiple features and functionalities, thus, providing customers with a product that adapts to their specific applications. Furthermore, this allows Vertiv to present cooling solutions at a variety of price points.
For its evaporative and adiabatic technologies, Vertiv concentrated on software, water usage, and diagnostic and preventive maintenance. Its design and software features thus increase cooling efficiency and simultaneously diminishing investment and operational costs of the water system. Finally, Vertiv LIFE™ Services provide remote diagnostic and preventive monitoring to analyse all relevant parameters, thus optimising unit performance, reducing on-site maintenance, and extending the life of the equipment.
“Vertiv’s new product launches, complemented by its technology excellence, will boost its customer acquisition and retention potential,” noted Gautham. “These new cooling products are specially designed to address any ASHRAE thermal envelope and lower the total cost of ownership, increase efficiency, as well as decrease installation costs.”
Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that has developed a product with innovative features and functionality, gaining rapid acceptance in the market. The award recognises the quality of the solution and the customer value enhancements it enables.
Frost & Sullivan Best Practices awards recognise companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research to identify best practices in the industry.
