Consumer electronics, automotive, computing and storage industries will account for highest share of sales, finds Frost & Sullivan
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – Feb. 3, 2015 – Despite a lack of advancements in screen printer technology, demand from industries such as consumer electronics, automotive, storage and telecommunication has bolstered the global market for surface mount technology (SMT) screen printers. Innovations in electronics and conversion of manual equipment to automatic control will push the adoption curve up. Meanwhile, sale volumes of SMT glue dispensers will remain steady as glue dispensers are indispensable in the production of complex printed circuit boards.
New analysis from Frost & Sullivan, Analysis of the Global SMT Screen Printers and Glue Dispensers Market, finds that the market earned revenues of $652.3 million in 2014 and estimates this to reach $1,454.8 million in 2021. The study primarily covers the consumer electronics, automotive, telecommunication, computing and storage, industrial application, aerospace and defense, and medical devices end-user industries.

“As miniaturization becomes more popular, companies struggle to accurately place small components on miniaturized electronics boards,” said Frost & Sullivan Measurement and Instrumentation Research Analyst Viswam Sathiyanarayanan. “This fuels demand for SMT screen printers and dispensers.”
Even as demand grows, price sensitivity in the SMT screen printers market may affect revenues. Facing intense competition from Asian vendors, established manufacturers must reduce prices in order to break even. Some tier III companies in North America and Europe have shut down or merged with tier I companies due to their inability to handle high manufacturing costs.
Further, customers prefer jet printers over screen printers for complex printing applications. If production speeds increase and machine costs decrease, jet printing will disrupt the screen printers market.
“To stay alive, screen printing vendors are enhancing their products with features such as twin-roving camera vision systems for inspection and dual lane systems for mass production,” observed Sathiyanarayanan. “Building strategic partnerships to drive sales and scouting for mergers and acquisitions to broaden product portfolios will help suppliers enlarge their footprint in the global market.”
