Frost & Sullivan Applauds Keysight’s Double-digit Growth in the PXI-based Instrumentation Market on the Strength of its Excellent Modular Devices
Keysight’s growth strategy for the PXI market is based on a strong understanding of customer needs, the competitive landscape, and its own strengths
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — October 3, 2016 — Based on its recent analysis of the PCI extensions for instrumentation (PXI)-based instrumentation market, Frost & Sullivan recognizes Keysight Technologies with the 2016 Global Frost & Sullivan Award for Growth Excellence Leadership. Keysight Technologies’ significant revenue growth in the PXI-based instrumentation market is largely a result of its robust product innovation, heavy R&D investments, and dominance of the radio frequency (RF) and microwave (MW) test equipment market. Its PXI revenue increased from $14.8 million in 2010 to nearly $90.0 million in 2015, translating to a 7.8% increase in market share, from less than 5% to 12.8%.

Modular instrumentation benefits of speed, small footprint, and scalability are attractive to end users, while Keysight’s use of a common measurement science across bench and modular products aids design and manufacturing engineering teams. Meanwhile, its novel products and Keysight Reference Solutions reduce the time-to-insight by combining its measurement expertise and science for enterprises in key industries.
Keysight currently offers more than 150 modular products, most of which are PXI-based. Its most noteworthy solutions are the high-performance M9393A PXIe Performance Vector Signal Analyzer (VSA) up to 50 GHz and the single-slot M937xA PXIe Vector Network Analyzers up to 26.5 GHz. It also has a portfolio of Keysight Reference Solutions comprised of hardware and software configurations that are available for 12 specific applications. The company recently introduced the M9420A PXIe VXT Vector Transceiver, which integrates signal generation and signal analysis in a single module. Together, these systems demonstrate the high performance that can be achieved through PXI.
“Keysight has demonstrated a sound understanding of customer challenges, especially regarding the transition from bench to modular in customers’ product lifecycle,” said Frost & Sullivan Industry Director Jessy Cavazos. “In response, it has developed a product line of components that customers can use to create their own test systems, and Keysight Reference Solutions for use as building blocks for their PXI test systems. By employing the same application software across its bench, modular, and portable products, Keysight presents customers with a consistent measurement science to facilitate their migration from one form factor to another.”
By expanding its T&M product line to include both traditional bench instruments and PXI-based modular instruments, Keysight has increased its share of wallet with customers. It caters to customers’ T&M needs from the earliest stages of the product lifecycle, all the way to production and even providing field instruments, if needed.
While Keysight’s growth in the PXI-based instrumentation market has been mostly product-oriented, it is establishing a partner ecosystem as well. Its solution partners help the company integrate systems for customers, which is important to support the configuration, installation, and integration of a PXI system into a production line.
“Keysight is aiming to become the market leader in the modular instrumentation market,” noted Cavazos. “It is expected to continue expanding the breadth and depth of its RF/MW PXI product portfolio as well as foray into digital input/output (I/O), digitizers, and other general tools and lower-frequency product segments.”
Overall, Keysight Technologies has demonstrated the zeal to succeed by fostering brand loyalty, competing effectively, and carving out a unique and sustainable position in the PXI-based instrumentation market.
